Our Guest Speaker - Alma Ní Choigligh
Alma Ní Choigligh joined the Irish diplomatic service in 1998.
Prior to appointment as Ambassador of Ireland to Portugal, as well as non-resident Ambassador of Ireland to Angola, Cabo Verde and Guinea-Bissau in August 2023, she served as acting Director General for EU Affairs in the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin from November 2022 to July 2023. She was Policy Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2021–22.
She served as EU-UK Director from 2018–21 and as Trade Policy Director from 2016–18, playing a key role in the management of Brexit across Government in Ireland. She undertook diplomatic postings in London (2005–10 and 2014–16) and Singapore (2000–02) and has also worked in the Political, Anglo-Irish and Corporate Services Divisions of the Department of Foreign Affairs and in the Taoiseach’s Department.
